Towards the end of summer, you may have seen “Shark Week” series on cable television’s Discovery Channel—the week devoted to programs following one of nature’s scariest creatures. But did you know that one of the stars of Shark Week is a Massachusetts public employee?
Greg Skomal is a marine biologist with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries....
After spending years photographing and tracking sharks all over the world, Skomal has not only become the Bay State’s leading expert on sharks, but a star of several Shark Week shows. You may have seen him on the news recently after a man was bitten by a great white shark at a Cape Cod beach.
The MOSES member also teaches as the University of Massachusetts School for Marine Science and Technology in New Bedford.
You can see more of Greg in action on this video from last year's Shark Week, this local news video and this recent profile in the Boston Globe.
